The scandal, where ex-Governor John Kitzhaber’s soon-to-be-wife Cylvia Hayes was revealed to be illegally influencing the governor’s mansion to make deals with her business interests, led to Kitzhaber’s resignation. Now the e-mails are adding another wrinkle to the controversy.
It appears that Tom Steyer, a major backer of pro-global warming and green energy causes in addition to Democratic campaigns, may be involved in the Oregon ethics scandal where the now-ex-governor’s first lady took illegal payments from a green energy company.
The whirlwind scandal has led to Democratic Gov. John Kitzhaber, who had changed his mind about resigning after recalling the state’s secretary of state (a part of the procedure of the resignation process), to actually resign.
The Democratic governor, John Kitzhaber, initially recalled the state’s secretary of state, a clear signal that he was going to resign. But, while she was traveling back to Oregon, he changed his mind and he asked her why she returned to Oregon so early.
Democrat John Kitzhaber, who was re-elected this past election cycle, initially indicated that he would resign after reports of his fiancée emerged where she was an unpaid adviser to his team. However, she also was paid as a consultant dealing with the same issues.
Governor Kitzhaber was elected to a fourth term, which made him the longest-serving governor for the state, but his fiancée may have double dipped in green energy lobbying and energy policy-making in Kitzhaber’s team. Not good.
