Uh, how about no, New York Times. Once taxes go up, they rarely come back down. So if gas prices are low right now, they’ll go back up and then we’ll be stuck with high gas taxes with high gas prices.

The vote was a telling statement by Michigan voters, where supporters of raising gas taxes outspent opponents by a 42-to-1 ratio and didn’t get 20% on the referendum. Ouch.
