Russia and their rebels forced Ukrainian troops to withdraw from Debaltseve after launching a two-day assault, which violated the terms of a cease-fire reached last week. The city links railroads between two major rebel cities of Donetsk and Luhansk.
It is a great read by the Los Angeles Times, and depressing as well, seeing the sacrifice of brave Ukrainians against Russian troops (at least that’s what soldiers on the ground are saying, due to the military precision of the rebel forces).
Ukrainian government troops lost the Donetsk airport to the pro-Russia rebels, who are reportedly armed by Russia, and could easily lose the rest of their recent gains in eastern Ukraine if no military aid is provided.
Ukrainian government troops beat back the pro-Russia rebels to regain territory lost some time ago, returning it to the status quo as negotiations and peace talks resume.
The airport itself is in shambles in Donetsk, where government troops are holed up and surrounded by pro-Russia rebels, the latter having consistently violated ceasefire agreements the past several months.
