Mr. Michael Mason
FBI Assistant Director

Dear Mr. Mason:

The FBI's handling of the anthrax-letters case has become a tragic joke. Two years have passed in the investigation and the reputation of the Bureau has been damaged by the publicized violations of the rights of "person of interest" Dr. Steven Hatfill and an expensive and worthless search of a Maryland pond. You have backed away from the use of that phrase, "person of interest," but you should really urge Attorney General Ashcroft to settle Hatfill's lawsuit against the Justice Department and examine the abundant evidence implicating al Qaeda and the 9/11 hijackers in the attacks. You have a unique opportunity to reverse course in this investigation and possibly solve the case. Americans are counting on you to do the right thing.
