Dear Chairman Hyde:

Human rights advocate Norbert Vollertsen, who has exposed to the world the brutality of the North Korean regime, says that a high-ranking defector from the regime is being held as a virtual hostage in South Korea and is not permitted to travel to the U.S. to testify to Congress. He says a CBS News crew was even barred from interviewing him. The defector, Hwang Jang Yop, was a member of the ruling Workers Party and reportedly has information about communist agents in the South Korean government and bribes to North Korean officials. It is already established that secret payments to the North were made to arrange a summit meeting between dictator Kim Jong Il and the former South Korean president. You could break this scandal wide open by making arrangements to get the defector into the U.S. Please act now so that this important story can be told.
