Dear Mr. Kristof:

You wrote a series of articles about a "Mr. Z" needing additional scrutiny by the FBI in the anthrax case. You later identified him by name. You succeeded in your campaign, making Steven Hatfill into a federal target and making his life miserable. You acknowledge there is not a shred of forensic evidence linking him to the anthrax letters, but you rely on bloodhounds to make your case against him, ignoring experts who say it is highly unlikely that scents from the anthrax letters excited them in his apartment, much less a restaurant he visited. Your confidence in the FBI's honesty and skill is misplaced. They misled the media about Richard Jewell, who won millions of dollars from the media in his defamation suits. You say the presumption of innocence has been maimed since 9/11. You have contributed to the maiming with your columns on Dr. Hatfill.
