Dear Ambassador Bandar:
I understand that 15 of the 9/11 hijackers entered this country with visas obtained in your country. This reflects laxity in our consulates that issued the visas and we must correct that. But it also reflects badly on your country that 12 of them were Saudis. Fox News recently aired portions of programs that were shown on Iqraa Television, a satellite channel provided by ART, a Saudi-based company backed by Prince Alaweed. The programs were designed to spread hatred and encourage suicide bombings. I am also deeply concerned about the way in which Saudi security officials treated Dr. Bob Arnot, an ABC News correspondent. He had been promised free access, but his video tapes and his laptop were seized and he had to bargain for his freedom for five hours after having been told that he had committed a “capital offense.” You cannot win friends and influence Americans with actions such as these.
