Accuracy in Media

WASHINGTON — Accuracy in Media has learned that The Joint Chiefs are taking the Washington Post to task for a “reprehensible” and “callous” editorial cartoon about U.S. soldiers who have sacrificed their limbs in the Iraq War. They have signed a letter to Philip Bennett, managing editor of the Post, strongly objecting to an indecent “cartoon” that ridicules our service personnel.

The “cartoon,” as one military observer put it, is one of the paper’s “many tasteless cartoons about the military.” The observer adds, “It’s also not very often that every member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff will sign a letter of this nature, thus signifying the importance of this issue to those now leading our armed forces.”

Accuracy In Media (AIM) is a non-profit, grassroots citizens watchdog of the news media that critiques botched and bungled news stories and sets the record straight on important issues that have received slanted coverage.
