Accuracy in Media

WASHINGTON—Accuracy in Media editor Cliff Kincaid has called Congressional liberals shameless for using Clifford the Big Red Dog as a political prop in their campaign to keep massive federal subsidies flowing to public broadcasting.

Citing photographs of Clifford marching with liberal Democrats on Capitol Hill to oppose cuts to public broadcasting, Kincaid commented, “Shame on the Washington liberals for politically abusing this beloved children’s character. They can’t defend the liberal slant of public broadcasting so they decided to use Clifford in a propaganda campaign to manipulate children and their parents. They want people to believe that Clifford’s life is threatened if the subsidies are cut. That is false and they know it.”
Kincaid said that it was his impression, based on photos of the event, that Clifford did not appear to be very happy being used as a political pawn. “I think Clifford wants to go back to entertaining the kids, rather than being used as a prop by the liberal politicians.”
