Sen. Bernie Sanders (I.-Vt.), a self-described socialist, blasted the Democratic Party for its failures over the past 15 years.
Sanders, who caucuses and votes with the Democratic Party, said at an event in Mississippi that the party had done nothing outside of electing Barack Obama as president.
At the event, Sanders said:
“The business model, if you like, of the Democratic Party for the last 15 years or so has been a failure.. People sometimes don’t see that because there was a charismatic individual named Barack Obama.”
The stark number of state offices that the party lost to the Republicans during that time period supports that claim.
As previously reported at AIM, under Obama’s presidency, the Democratic Party lost over 1,000 seats at the state and national level and saw the Republicans hold 33 governorships and full control in 25 states.
