Accuracy in Media

Reuters published a couple of headlines that were erroneous, which is embarrassing. The news outlet published an article on the ESPN-Robert Lee controversy, where ESPN moved an Asian announced by the name of Robert Lee due to alleged concerns that his name was too similar to Confederate General Robert E. Lee.

Instead of calling a college football game between the University of Virginia and William & Mary, ESPN moved him to call a game in Pittsburgh.

Outrage over the news ensued, but Reuters’ headlines, where it called Lee a “doppelgänger” and “namesake,” were factually incorrect.

How embarrassing.
