Accuracy in Media

Good evening and welcome to Rapid Fire, our daily tip sheet. Here you will find updates to breaking AIM content and have a look at what we’re reading. Please keep emailing tips and suggestions or hit us up on Facebook or Twitter.

TOP STORY: The Obama Administration has dusted off the old tactic of demonizing Fox News for asking critical questions on foreign policy. When Fox’s Ed Henry asked the President about the growing Iranian threat, Mr. Obama alleged him to be a shill for Mitt Romney. Don Irvine has more: “[A]s Obama’s exchange with Henry showed, the administration is clearly feeling the pressure of failed policies and expectations and the eroding confidence of not only the public, but of their liberal media allies.”

MEDIA WATCH: We suppose MSNBC now allows anchors to drop their job and go do activist things when the mood strikes…or when the ratings just get too bad. Reverend Al should be careful though when he breaks with the script. Don Irvine comments: “While somewhat supportive of Obama, Sharpton hit on the same problem that Rep. Maxine Waters complained about in August – that there is a huge unemployment problem in the black community and that the administration isn’t addressing the issue.” First rule of DNC TV: Thou Shall Not Question President Obama.

ELECTION 2012: The media honeymoon is officially over for Herman Cain. Sure, last week he was lobbed softballs about his skin color, but now the tougher policy questions are being extended and he’s taking heat from both sides. When pushed about his 9-9-9 tax proposal, this tough admission came out: “Some people will pay more. But most people will pay less…Who would pay more? The people who spend more money on new goods. The sales tax only applies to people who buy new goods, not used goods. That’s a big difference.” We’ll bet that only the first statement will make the news sound bite though.

BACK TO THE BUS: What does the Obama playbook say to do when an idea or policy leads to failure? Rinse, re-use and repeat: “President Barack Obama will urge Congress to get to work this week on passing pieces of his larger, now-defunct jobs bill during a three-day bus tour through North Carolina and Virginia, two southern states that will be critical to his re-election campaign.” We wonder if he’ll use the same bus with a Made in Canada sticker on it. Way to support Detroit, Barry.

KOCH-HEAD CAIN: It was only so long until biased media decided to pair Godfather Cain with the left’s boogeymen du-jour, the Koch Brothers: “Republican presidential hopeful Herman Cain has cast himself as the outsider, the pizza magnate with real-world experience who will bring fresh ideas to the nation’s capital. But Cain’s economic ideas, support and organization have close ties to two billionaire brothers who bankroll right-leaning causes through their group Americans for Prosperity.” For those of you keeping score, the left has now labeled Cain a racist, a tax-hiker, Uncle Tom and now this.

WHAT WE’RE READING: The Occupy Wall Street gang might not have a very clear goal for policy, goals or hygiene, but cash and other operational assets are beginning to come into focus: “The [Occupy Wall Street Headquarters] was donated by the United Federation of Teachers, which has offices in the building…Close to $300,000 in cash also has been donated, through the movement’s website and by people who give money in person at the park…The movement has an account at Amalgamated Bank, which bills itself as ‘the only 100 percent union-owned bank in the United States.” This is certainly a must read for all of the Astro-Turf details.

TEA PARTY VS. OWS: AIM guest columnist Lloyd Marcus just cannot feel sympathy for the folks taking part in Occupy [Insert Location Here]: “I look at the Occupy Wall Street despicable mobs; spoiled brat college students, America hating Marxists, paid professional protesters and plain old lazy bottom feeders, all demanding freebies while claiming ownership of the fruit of other folk’s labor. And the left expects me to respect and sympathize with these parasites.”

CHARTERED SUCCESS: For those of you pushing for school choice, your case study has arrived. Accuracy in Academia reports that “Five years ago, only 23% of New Orleans school kids tested at or above ‘basic’ – Today that figure has more than doubled to 48 percent. [Today] four out of every five kids in New Orleans attend charter schools.”

00-9/11: There are renewed concerns in Congress that the NYPD and the CIA are getting just a little too cozy. Since the September 11 Attacks, at least one unnamed CIA operative has been embedded with New York’s Finest for not so clear purposes: “Federal and city officials have offered differing explanations for why this CIA officer — a seasoned operative who handled foreign agents and ran complex operations in Jordan and Pakistan — was assigned to a municipal police department.”
