It begs the question, did Obama really help “bring back our girls” in Nigeria? They weren’t American citizens, but girls getting kidnapped by Boko Haram Islamists is tragic and evil, wherever it occurs. But, the mainstream media have not followed up on this hashtag or any of Obama’s remarks on how to actually accomplish this goal, although The New York Times did ask if it could lead to anything back in May 2014.
Meanwhile, a Nigerian town was burned and razed to the ground and its residents massacred by Boko Haram. Neighboring Cameroon has seen some of their border villages suffer similar fates. Boko Haram itself mocked the hashtag campaign, released a video and said, “Bring back our army.” The founder of the hashtag, Ibrahim Abdullahi, said it brought awareness to the issue and he was proud of that, but he did not comment on whether it led to any concrete action. Yet, silence is golden, at least to the liberal mainstream media.
State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki, who has been mocked several times for her gaffes and inability to answer simple questions, joined in on the social media hashtag campaign. Back in 2014, Ukraine was invaded by pro-Russian rebels in Crimea and in eastern Ukraine. Instead of sending weapons and necessary gear, the Obama administration felt a hashtag and MRE’s (food rations) were adequate. But, even those rations were late in arriving.
ObamaCare is highly unpopular and polls show that it had only a 37% approval rating when the new enrollment period started in November 2014. But the administration’s landmark reform law has to be buttressed somehow, so the White House turned to Twitter, social media and hashtags. “Get Covered,” the White House said, but that ignores how the law dismantled Americans’ affordable health insurance plans that they generally liked, and made Americans buy more expensive, general health insurance plans that they don’t like or can’t afford, especially when you consider the new high deductibles.
Oh, and for good measure, there are other hashtags for healthcare coverage: #BuyNowSaveLater, #StayCovered, #ThisIsWhy, #ReadySetEnroll.
This doesn’t even begin to take into account how the American people resent a key architect of ObamaCare, MIT economist Jonathan Gruber, who boasted about how he duped the “stupid” American voter to pass the law.
No-Shows: #CharlieHebdo and #JeSuisCharlie
So no #CharlieHebdo or #JeSuisCharlie? Then again, Obama did snub the French when they held a unity rally in Paris after the awful terrorist attacks that left 17 people dead. His chief of staff accepted responsibility for the snub. But, worst of all, Secretary of State John Kerry went to France and brought James Taylor to play music as a combined apology and group hug.
