New York Times Edits Article Insinuating Trump Advisor may have Lied to Congress

The New York Times had to edit and amend significant portions of their recent article on former Trump national security advisor K.T. McFarland, who is awaiting confirmation to an ambassadorship to Singapore. Headline changes were made, as were edits in the main body of the article. Also missing from the subsequently-edited piece were the e-mail correspondence that may have proved the Times‘ allegations.

The newspaper also insinuated that the e-mail correspondence they received proved that McFarland may have lied to Congress, only to correct that portion of the article after it was published.

Per the Washington Examiner’s Becket Adams [1]:

The headline alone has undergone multiple facelifts. Here they are, in order of change:

  • “McFarland Contradicted Herself on Russia Contacts, Congressional Testimony Shows”
  • “Email Counters Aide on Flynn’s Russia Contact”

It then reverted to back to: “McFarland Contradicted Herself on Russia Contacts, Congressional Testimony Shows,” and then changed twice more:

  • “Email Counters Testimony On Flynn by Former Aide”
  • “Former Aide’s Testimony On Russia Is Questioned”
