ABC News and CNN didn’t run feature articles on GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump’s national security speech, but CBS News and NBC News did. Why did they not cover his speech, or at least do a short article on it?
NBC News poked at Trump’s lack of military and government experience:
The Republican nominee, who would be the first president of the modern era to not have military or government experience should he win, cast the foreign policy plans of Hillary Clinton as examples of her being “reckless,” “trigger happy,” and “very unstable. Trump also advocated growing America’s military with defense spending that a Trump campaign official tells NBC will likely be above pre-sequestration levels, which means spending would likely be above $550 billion.
CBS News said the following about Trump:
The address in downtown Philadelphia, Trump’s second visit here in as many weeks, highlighted his foreign policy views, which have not always been consistent.
“In a Trump Administration, our actions in the Middle East will be tempered by realism,” Trump said. “The current strategy of toppling regimes with no plan for what to do the day after only produces power vacuums that are filled simply by terrorists. Gradual reform, not sudden and radical change, should be our guiding objective in that region.”
Trump himself is on record supporting the very Middle East interventions he now bashes, including in Iraq and . This, however, did not stop Trump from lobbying scathing criticisms at Clinton.
