In the first months of the year, American immigration officials saw low numbers of illegal immigrants coming across the U.S.-Mexico border, leaving media outlets to speculate whether President Donald Trump’s immigration rhetoric and political position influenced decisions to not immigrate to the States at that time.
The federal government figures for November 2017 showed a surge back to Obama-era immigration levels, where 39,006 crossed the border. As Townhall noted , this is a 12 percent increase from the previous month and double the monthly numbers for March 2017 and April 2017.
The media glanced over the news, which was released last week, and focused on topics such as the GOP’s tax reform bill efforts and the Trump-Mueller probe. CNN and NBC News did not cover the immigration figures on their online websites.
