Accuracy in Media

In a zealous investigative reporting effort to unearth more scoops on the alleged collusion between Trump and Russia, the media flubbed three major stories related to that subject.

  • CNN erroneously reported how President Donald Trump’s son, Donald Trump Jr., received advanced notice of WikiLeaks files from Russia, but that was debunked by the Washington Post.
  • ABC News misreported former Trump adviser Michael Flynn was told by the Trump campaign to contact the Russian government when it was the Trump transition team (therefore, it was legal contact between an incoming government and a foreign government).
  • Reuters and Bloomberg made the mistake in reporting that a recent subpoena of Deutsche Bank involved bank accounts of the Trump family when it was a subpoena for “people or entities close to Mr. Trump.”
