Accuracy in Media

Participants in the annual March for Life in Washington, D.C., received the first-ever presidential participation in their event: A video message from President Donald Trump from the White House. It marks the first time that a sitting U.S. president addressed the pro-life marchers.

As a result of the president’s televised remarks to the march participants, the media covered his speech and the march. NPR, NBC News, and the Washington Post covered his remarks but often used the phrase anti-abortion to describe the march.

AIM attended 2017’s March for Life and covered the media coverage of that year’s march. At first, the media did not pay attention to it until newly inaugurated Trump mentioned how little attention it gets, and then, a flood of articles was published. Many of the headlines used the phrase¬†anti-abortion in covering 2017’s march.
