Accuracy in Media

NBC’s Lester Holt, with a camera crew, visited the communist regime of North Korea, and specifically, a ski resort in the country.

Among his remarks to NBC colleague Savannah Guthrie, Holt said that his camera crew “have been treated with respect here” despite a lengthy customs inspection when they arrived in the country.

Holt did mention, in the course of his short TV segment, that he and the camera crew are seeing “a part they [the government] would like us to see.” Holt rightly pointed out, in those few words, how their coverage is filtered by the communist regime in North Korea.

But, to begin with, the remark that they were treated with respect appears disingenuous, considering Western media crews are often treated well to encourage favorable media coverage of the regime.
