Accuracy in Media

Seth Rich, a Democratic National Committee staffer who was killed in a botched robbery, became the subject of various conspiracy theories on the Internet following his death.

Despite D.C. police saying Rich was killed during a robbery, the story led to an erroneous Fox News report.

His parents are now suing Fox News for publishing a story on Rich’s alleged connection to WikiLeaks. Fox News’ source in the discredited report claimed Rich was sending DNC e-mails to WikiLeaks to help expose the corruption of the Hillary Clinton campaign.

Fox News retracted the story and said it did not meet its editorial standards, after TV show host Sean Hannity was widely criticized for it.

Update: A Fox News spokesperson e-mail AIM and said that the network declines comment during ongoing lawsuits.
