Accuracy in Media

Update: The Washington Post wrote that the female security guard said some disparaging remarks toward the transgender woman, which is the basis of her being charged:

A 32-year-old woman told police that as she tried to enter the women’s restroom at the Giant she was approached by the guard, who ordered her to leave, according to the arrest affidavit.

The two argued and the victim told police the guard said, “he/she f—– need to get out of here,” the affidavit says. The woman said the guard then blocked her from going into the main area of the store and pushed her toward the exit, saying, “You getting out of here today.”

Supposedly, the female security guard is possibly being charged with a hate crime. What?

A female security guard working at a Washington, D.C. grocery store was arrested Monday afternoon for physically escorting a man out of the women’s restroom after he refused to leave because he identifies as a woman.

The shopper — a young, African-American male who identified himself as Ebony Belcher to local news outlets — reportedly passed the security guard on his way into the women’s restroom at a Giant grocery store in Northeast D.C.
