Accuracy in Media

MSNBC hosts Ali Velshi and Stephanie Ruhle, recently interviewed Scott Sautritch, a steelworker from Pennsylvania.

Sauritch spoke at President Donald Trump’s White House ceremony that announced steel and aluminum tariffs and went on MSNBC to talk about the steel industry and tariffs, in general.

After talking about issues facing the steel industry such as manpower and work efficiency, Velshi asked Sauritch, “You don’t want your son being a steelworker, I assume?”

Sauritch countered and told Velshi that his son was hired in the steel industry “not too long ago.”

Velshi pivoted to another question, but the initial assumption exposed his own bias toward the issue of tariffs and the steel industry and lack of understanding of American blue collar workers.
