Sen. Martin Heinrich (D.-N.M.) commented on gun control legislative efforts in Congress and said that the country should look to abolish “assault rifles” and “gas-assisted receiver firearms.”

MSNBC host Kristen Welker did not clarify what the New Mexico senator meant by “gas-assisted receiver firearms.”

The Washington Free Beacon reported that Heinrich’s claim was not based in fact. The closest gun part that the Free Beacon noted is called a receiver, which holds together internal components of a gun.
