Several members of Accuracy in Media’s Citizen’s Commission on Benghazi (CCB) are among the signers of a recent letter to Speaker John Boehner demanding that he establish a Select Committee to investigate the events behind the September 11, 2012 attacks in Benghazi, Libya. “Your reluctance to lead and resistance to create a Select Committee on Benghazi must end,” it states. “More than 75% of all House Republicans—with the conspicuous absence of those in leadership or committee chairmen—have cosponsored Rep. [Frank] Wolf’s Select Committee bill.”
Benghazi is anything but a “phony scandal,” as the Obama Administration would wish it were labeled. Accuracy in Media has reported time and again on how the media have sought to sweep this scandal and others under the rug. In a recent column for The Washington Post, Ryan Cooper comments that “Going by past history, the answer will be to turn [Obamacare] into a conservative pet rock: like Benghazi and the IRS stories, an initially suspicious happening which turns out to be a non-scandal or an example of run-of-the-mill governing incompetence, but lives on forever as a Watergate level episode in the conservative fever swamps.” This type of rhetoric just demonstrates how the liberal media have shown their unwillingness to take the Benghazi scandal seriously.
And The New York Times recently published a piece which argued that neither al Qaeda, nor other international terrorist groups, were responsible for the attacks, and that the YouTube video, the “Innocence of Muslims,” at least partly prompted Islamic outrage and fueled the attacks. We demonstrate how this article was clearly designed to help presidential hopeful and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. “Besides the obvious New York Times editorial and political objectives of inoculating Hillary Clinton and her 2016 presidential campaign from further criticism of her failures as Secretary of State, the story contradicts objective truth and established facts in a way that confuses the public,” states the letter, sent January 6.
AIM’s Citizen’s Commission on Benghazi is composed of some of the country’s top retired military officers, intelligence agents and national security experts and is dedicated to searching for the truth behind what happened that day.
The CCB members who signed onto the letter are:
- Maj. Gen. Paul Vallely, (USA Ret.),
- LTC Allen B. West (U.S. Army, Ret.),
- Dick Brauer, Col, USAF (Ret.),
- Lt. Col. Ken Benway, USA (Ret.), and
- Lt. Col. Dennis B. Haney, USAF (Ret.).
“The families of the dead who fought valiantly to protect the mission and their families, the survivors, and the American people deserve better from you and your Members of Congress,” states the letter. “They deserve the absolute truth from their government. Your failure to get the truth and hold public officials accountable increases the possibility of other repeat attacks and additional failures to defend Americans abroad.”
