Accuracy in Media

CNN devoted seven hours of mostly primetime coverage to its much-ballyhooed Climate Crisis Town Hall and while liberals fell over themselves to praise the effort, the ratings told another story as the network finished dead last in every hour that the program aired.

According to Nielsen, CNN averaged 1,091,000 total viewers between 5 p.m. and midnight ET, with just 265,000 average viewers in the key adult 25-54 demographic.  By comparison, Fox News Channel averaged 2.4 million viewers and MSNBC 1.6 million viewers for the same time period.

Compared to the same day last year CNN was down sharply in total viewers and the demo, though up in primetime (8-11 p.m.).  Fox averaged 3.2 million viewers in primetime and MSNBC 2.2 million.

Ten Democrat presidential candidates town part in the town hall- Sens. Cory Booker (N.J.), Amy Klobuchar (Minn.), Kamala Harris (Calif.), Elizabeth Warren (Mass.), Bernie Sanders (Vt.) and Joe Biden, South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg, Rep. Beto O’Rourke (Texas), Julian Castro, and Andrew Yang.

Based on these results, it’s unlikely any major network will ever try to air a program like this in the future.
