CNN’s Camerota Leaves Out Fact that Rubio Sponsored Bill Preventing Gun Violence

Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) is no stranger to criticism, but this time, CNN’s Alisyn Camerota misrepresented his position on preventing gun violence.

The CNN host recently interviewed [1] Rep. Ted Deutch (D-Fla.) about his role in pushing for gun violence prevention and criticized Rubio’s alleged non-involvement in promoting the bill.

Camerota asked Deutch in the interview why Rubio introduced a bill to make Daylight Savings Time permanent, and not focus on a gun violence prevention bill. She praised Deutch for his work on gun violence prevention but forgot that Rubio also supports the same bill. Here’s what Camerota asked Deutch:

One of your colleagues in the Senate, Marco Rubio who, of course, represents Florida and was there with you at our CNN town hall, he introduced a bill yesterday. It was about Daylight Saving Time. He wants to make it year-round.

Do you think that helps gun violence?

Deutch chuckled and responded, “I assume that’s a rhetorical question, Alisyn?”

She then criticized Rubio’s alleged avoidance of legislation:

Well, I mean, I guess my point is that things are being done in Congress but they’re not being done on this issue of … even his home state. And I just want you to explain why this would be his priority.

A quick Google search of the “Gun Violence Prevention Act” shows that Rubio and Nelson co-sponsored the bill and that they announced it at a joint conference. You can read Rubio’s press release on the announcement here [2].
