James Clapper and John Brennan served as intelligence officials during the Barack Obama presidency, but CNN buried their political affiliations in an article highlighting their criticism of President Donald Trump’s recent comments on Russia.
Trump said the following:
“I believe that he feels that he and Russia did not meddle in the election… As to whether I believe it or not, I am with our agencies, especially as currently constituted with the leadership.”
Trump is undoing Obama’s legacy, and Clapper and Brennan are criticizing Trump for his foreign policy and intelligence actions. But these two former government officials were in charge of the U.S. intelligence apparatus that was allegedly fooled by Russia in the 2016 election.
CNN did mention the men’s affiliation with Obama, but not until the last half of the article.
