This year’s Winter Olympics are being held in Pyeongchang, South Korea, and North Korean athletes are participating on a joint Korean team for women’s hockey. The symbolic move came after South Korea reached out to their communist neighbors and invited them to participate in the Winter Olympics. The North Korean government sent Kim Jong Un’s sister, Kim Yo Jong, to attend as a representative and the Korean athletes marched under a single banner, a banner that depicted the Korean peninsula.

CNN pounced on the appearance of Kim Jong Un’s sister at the Opening Ceremonies.

Its headline read, “Kim Jong Un’s sister is stealing the show at the Winter Olympics.” But only one paragraph was dedicated to the human rights violations in communist North Korea:

But as North Korea’s brutal dictator, Kim’s brother has ruled with an iron fist since coming to power, operating Nazi-style prison camps, repressing political opposition and even executing senior officers and his own family members in an effort to consolidate power.
The rest of the article profiled her role in her brother’s government and read like a profile puff piece.
