CNN Got the Story Wrong about AG Needing to Disclose Contacts

CNN reported [1] in May 2017 that then-Sen. Jeff Sessions (now the Trump administration’s attorney general) was required to disclose his foreign contacts while serving in the Senate. Specifically, CNN claimed that Sessions had to disclose meeting with a Russian government official.

But, this week, CNN wrote that the story was incorrect [2]:

A newly released document shows that the FBI told an aide to Attorney General Jeff Sessions that Sessions wasn’t required to disclose foreign contacts that occurred in the course of carrying out his government duties when he was a senator.

CNN may have known that the network knew the story was incorrect because they appeared to know that the FBI told one of Sessions’ aides that Sessions did not have to disclose contacts with foreign officials while serving as a U.S. senator.
