Accuracy in Media

Trying to get back in the good graces of Democrats, former acting Democratic National Committee chairwoman Donna Brazile told Chris Matthews last week that she does not believe Trump was legitimately elected last year.

Brazile’s sentiments echo remarks Clinton made questioning the election more than a year after it took place, sending shockwaves through the Democratic Party.

“Donald Trump cracked the blue wall,” she said. “He was able to win votes in Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin, but, yes, I do believe Secretary Clinton is making a very important point. The role of social media, this coordination between WikiLeaks and possibly the Trump campaign—we need to get to the bottom of it.”

Matthews pressed her on whether she agrees with Clinton’s opinion of the election.

“My personal view is that it was not a legitimate election,” Brazile said.

Brazile was roundly criticized by Democrats after she said that the 2016 Democratic primary was “rigged” for Clinton — remarks that she later attempted to walk back.
