The media gobbled up anti-Pence criticism from U.S. Olympic men’s figure skater Adam Rippon, who is openly gay, in the beginning of the Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea.
Weeks ago, Rippon criticized the vice president for supporting a controversial therapy treatment for homosexuals.
However, the basis of his criticism has been reported to be false, but activists and the media alike accept the myth to this day. There was no media correction of Rippon’s statement.
After making his initial comments, Rippon denied that he refused to meet the vice president and said he is not trying to make this Winter Olympics about those comments.
Toward the close of the Winter Olympics, Rippon again changed his tune and said he would be open to meeting with Vice President Mike Pence.
