U.S. Olympian Adam Rippon, who is openly gay, criticized Vice President Mike Pence leading up to the Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea.
Rippon said that the vice president funded gay conversion therapy, which was denied by Pence’s camp.
The media did not correct Rippon or any of its reporting on Rippon’s claim, which was based on a 2000 campaign platform that did not say that Pence was supportive of the practice.
With the Olympics underway, Rippon told the media this week that he’s not focusing on the vice president.
“I’m ready, I’m here. I’m at the Olympics. I came to play and I’m so excited to be here.” Rippon has apparently changed his tune on criticism of the vice president, for the time being.
