WASHINGTON — We at Accuracy in Media wish you had a wonderful Veterans’ Day, formerly known as Armistice Day.
We honor the sacrifices and service of those brave servicemen and servicewomen in our past wars, although the holiday marks the end of the Great War, a.k.a World War One. The Treaty of Versailles was signed on June 28, 1919, but hostilities officially ended with the armistice going into effect on November 11, 1919. Here is a good summary of Veterans’ Day via the Department of Veterans’ Affairs.
In the United Kingdom, red poppies were placed outside the Tower of London to commemorate the occasion, making a spectacular visual display.
Thank you for your service, men and women of the armed forces.
