Ukraine Blames Russia for Starting a Second Front in Civil War

WASHINGTON — The Ukrainian government based in Kiev blames Russia for starting a second war front in the Ukrainian civil war. The Russian government denied the charges.

The soldiers, who the Ukrainians said were disguised as the rebels, entered Ukraine with ten tanks and two armored infantry vehicles. They were stopped by border guards outside Novoazovsk, which is the most south-easterly point on the Azov Sea. The border guards destroyed two tanks and forced a hasty retreat.

Ukraine President Petro Poroshenko said he had “extraordinary concern” over a possible second front of the civil war. He is set to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin in the city of Minsk in Belarus this week.

Currently, the pro-Russia rebels are holed up in Luhansk and Donetsk [3], two major bastions of the separatist rebel movement. This move could be one to help break out the rebels from the Ukrainian government siege [4].
