WASHINGTON — The European Union was going to put into place a ban on E.U. financial assistance to Israeli organizations in Palestinian territories.
Reuters reported that U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry asked the E.U. to postpone the ban until he can revive Israeli-Palestinian peace negotiations.
The ban was put into place when the E.U. became frustrated with Israel allowing settlements to expand into Palestinian territory controlled since the 1967 Middle East War. It is a sticking point in negotiations because the Israelis are not going to back down and the Palestinians refuse to meet other terms if settlements is not negotiated.
