WASHINGTON — Harry Reid’s promise to invoke the “nuclear option”, by dismantling the power of the filibuster, may come to pass sooner rather than later.
Reuters reports that the Senate Democrats are upset at the so-called obstructionism of the Senate Republicans over President Barack Obama’s recess appointments, which the Supreme Court is going to look over and is expected to rule against Obama.
Negotiations came to standstill on Monday and Tuesday over the “nuclear option”, but could disassemble one of the oldest legislative procedures designed to stave off a majority decision. Both Republicans and Democrats have excoriated the procedure, only to use it when their party was in the minority.
