WASHINGTON — The U.S. military is considering a complete pullout of Afghanistan, says sources at Reuters.
This highlights the inadequacies and tensions between the Afghan government led by Hamid Karzai and the American government under Barack Obama. Obama will continue his plan to withdraw by 2014, but there have been talks of keeping up to 8,000 troops in Afghanistan.
The U.S. opened peace talks with the Taliban, who are fighting U.S., NATO and Afghan troops, and upset the Afghans and Karzai himself. Karzai responded with a suspension on the U.S.-Afghan security pact that is up for negotiation.
