The train typically has two drivers, but it is unclear which one is at fault and under investigation.

Sources at Reuters quoted newspapers, where witnesses said driver Francisco Jose Garzon shouted “I’ve derailed! What do I do?!” into one of the train phones as he helped rescue victims. Apparently, the train hit the turn at about 120 miles per hour.

Another source quoted a driver as yelling, “We’re only human! We’re only human!…I hope there are no dead, because this will fall on my conscience.”
