WASHINGTON — Texas U.S. Senator, Ted Cruz, has officially shut the door regarding his birth certificate and qualifications to run for U.S. president on the GOP ticket in 2016, if he chooses to do so.
Reuters reports the birth certificate appears legitimate and was release via the Dallas Morning News.
Cruz has been in the public eye as a freshman Tea Party senator who won in part to the endorsement of former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin. A Tea Party favorite, he champions small government, low taxes and other conservative positions.
He has not officially declared his campaign for the presidency in 2016 on the Republican ticket, but has made visits to places like Iowa that has only fueled those speculations.
Questions have been raised about his eligibility, if he chooses to run for president. He was born in Calgary, Canada to an American mother and a Cuban-born father. Because his mother is an American citizen, he should qualify if he does run for president.
