WASHINGTON — The infamous Syrian Electronic Army, a hacking group that supports Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, claimed credit for hacking Skype, an internet calling service.

skype hackedReuters reported that this past Wednesday, the group also posted contact information for Microsoft’s retiring chief executive Steve Ballmer on its Twitter account.

The tweet said, “You can thank Microsoft for monitoring your accounts/emails using this details. #SEA”. It was a reference to former National Security Agency contractor Edward Snowden’s revelations that the American data-gathering agency was spying on Americans with help from internet companies.

Microsoft runs the internet calling service.
