WASHINGTON — Some concerns about the security situation in Russia are mounting as another suicide bombing rocked the Russian city of Volgograd. The Sochi Winter Olympics will start this coming February and these attacks worry organizers and countries alike.

volgograd bombingReuters reported that a suicide bomber donated their device on a bus in Volgograd, a second suicide bombing in the city after another bomber detonated explosives in a train station that killed 17 people.

Russian security forces have beefed up security in Sochi as the Winter Olympics near, as well as escalated anti-terrorist (more like anti-Islamist) operations in the contentious regions of Chechnya, Ingushetia and Dagestan. Several Islamist fighters have been killed over the past year and the region was where the older Boston Bomber was indoctrinated.

The Sochi Winter Olympics will be held in southern Russia on the Black Sea, but is too close to the volatile Islamist regions of Chechnya and Ingushetia.
