WASHINGTON — Mariam Ibrahim, a Christian convert who was sentenced to death in Sudan last month, was let go and released from prison by the Sudanese government after “unprecedented” international pressure.

mariam ibrahimReuters reported that the 27-year-old woman, who gave birth to a daughter while in prison, was later rearrested at a Sudanese airport. She married a Christian American and was seen as heretic for marrying the man, after converting from Islam to Christianity.

Ibrahim has been married to Daniel Wani since 2011 and they are the parents of two children.

The release was met with praise and relief, but soon turned to consternation and outrage after news of her being arrested again made the news cycle.
