WASHINGTON — A Russian spy ship visited Havana, Cuba while Russia is facing significant challenges from Ukraine. It was an unannounced visit and was a show of strength from Russia.
Reuters reported that the Viktor Leonov SSV-175, an intelligence ship, docked in the Havana harbor.
Russia is upset at how its ally, Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovich, was ousted by the Ukrainian parliament. Pro-European Union protesters eventually put pressure on the government after months of protests.
Russia recently said it would not send a large financial aid package, possibly worth up to $15 billion, to a cash-strapped Ukraine.
