WASHINGTON — Russia is planning to go back to the Soviet Union-era days, at least it seems so. Now, Russia plans to resume nuclear submarine patrols in the southern seas after a two-decade hiatus.
Reuters reports that they will send Borei-class submarines to the southern hemisphere after President Vladimir Putin said he’ll deploy naval units in the Mediterranean Sea on a permanent basis in March.
However, only one submarine will be deployed as the other seven commissioned submarines are yet to be completed, set for 2020. Putin has stressed a return to having a more reliable armed force at his command and has only provoked the U.S.
President Barack Obama was embarrassed when Russia actually “reset” relations with the U.S., when he had indicated that he would be the one turning things around.
