WASHINGTON — Somehow, the United Nations Security Council approved more foreign aid to Syria to alleviate effects of the civil war for the civilian population.

syrian refugeesReuters reported that Russia and China supported the aid resolution to boost access in Syria, after stalling the council on resolutions condemning the Syrian government for its role in the three-year-old civil war.

The resolution aims to help civilians in a worsening humanitarian situation, as many are in other countries in refugee camps. However, in the words of Obama’s U.N. ambassador Samantha Powers, “But a resolution is just words, it is implementation that matters and that’s what we’re starting measuring right now.”
