Rep. Issa says IRS targeting came from D.C.

WASHINGTON — Rep. Darrell Issa is now a thorn in the side of the IRS and the Obama administration, with some sources calling him the new congressional “bulldog”.

darrell issa podium [1]On the Sunday news circuit, Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA) said that the IRS targeting of Tea Party groups came directly from Washington, something that Democrats deny. Reuters reports [2] that these recent allegations stirred controversy.

Reuters also said that this was “a move that could jeopardize the bipartisan co-operation that so far has characterized Congress’s IRS investigations”. What has Reuters been watching?

Issa is the Republican chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Oversight and Government Reform and has been conducting investigations into the circumstances of the horrific Benghazi consulate attacks last year. Now, on CNN, Issa announced that his staff interview Cincinnati IRS employees who said they were “directly ordered” by Washington officials to target Tea Party groups.

Unlike other scandals, the names of these whistleblowers have been kept secret and so far, haven’t been intimidated by the Obama administration (unlike the Benghazi hearings).

Lois Lerner, who was in charge of the IRS’ tax-exempt organizations division, is now on administrative leave and the acting IRS chief was fired [3] by President Barack Obama amid pressure. The previous IRS chief has also denied any wrongdoing.
