Pakistani Intelligence Agency attacked, 3 dead and 40 wounded

WASHINGTON — A Pakistani intelligence agency’s offices were attacked by up to 10 gunmen, who also detonated four bombs at the heavily-guarded facility in the southern town of Sukkur. 3 people were killed and up to 40 wounded.

pakistani flag [1]Reuters reports [2] that there were other security offices in the near vicinity but that the Pakistani intelligence agency, the Inter-Services Intelligence (known as ISI), seems to be the main target of the gunmen.

Pakistan is facing significant domestic unrest over a standstill between the Pakistani military and the civilian government, in addition to the internal threats of the Pakistani Taliban against secular Pakistanis. There were suicide bombings and shootings during the recent parliamentary campaign, some of which were unprecedented [3] in Pakistan and one suicide bombing killed a top presidential aide [4].

Also, the standoff between the caretaker Pakistani military and the civilian government continues over the fate of former military dictator [5] Pervez Musharraf.

To add more fuel to the fire, the ISI was found incompetent by an internal report by the Pakistani government and blamed the ISI for not knowing that international terrorist mastermind Osama bin Laden [6] was hiding out in Pakistan.
