WASHINGTON — Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas is pushing for a separate Palestinian state, which is being strongly resisted by Israel.

mahmoud abbas PAReuters reports that in his remarks on a future Palestinian state, Abbas said that he does not want “not a single Israeli” to live within the Palestinian state. It is a stark contrast to Israel, where there are Israeli Arabs living within Israeli borders.

Abbas’ statement to journalists were “In a final resolution, we would not see the presence of a single Israeli – civilian or soldier – on our lands”.

U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry is pushing hard to get the Israelis and Palestinians to the negotiating table, but it is at an impasse for the time being. One of the main reasons is Palestinians want to return to pre-1967 War boundaries, which Israel balked at the proposal.
