WASHINGTON — Nintendo’s Wii U game console has cost the company millions and may force the longtime video-game developer to reconsider its hard-line stance of keeping games on its gaming consoles.

nintento wii uReuters reported that Nintendo is unlike Microsoft and Sony, whose Xbox One and PlayStation 4 saw strong sales. But, critics say that Nintendo should look to allow their flagship games to go onto mobile phones and smartphones.

Games like Mario and Zelda could do well on the smartphone market, but Nintendo has resisted such changes to allow other companies to develop their franchise games.
