WASHINGTON — Iran’s newest president, Hassan Rouhani, told NBC News that he is not seeking war between his country and others, which contradicts recent rhetoric and actions undertaken by the Iranian Islamist regime.
Reuters reported that Rouhani was interviewed by NBC News before he was to appear in New York City before the United Nations.
He said that he did not want war and only wants the Middle East region to be ruled “by the will of the people”, which could indicate that Iran pushes for more Shi’a Islamist governments in the region.
He said similar comments when asked about the state of Israel. And yet, when asked about nuclear weapons, he said Iran would never develop nuclear weapons. Iran has not stopped their uranium enrichment program, which is a process where nuclear weapons will eventually be developed.
